5 Reasons You Should You Follow A Plant Based Diet For Better Health
Just recently a new study from Icahn school of Medicine in New York has just been released and it has revealed that people who eat a plant based diet high in fruit and vegetables are 42% less likely to develop heart failure than those who consumed more meat and less plant based foods.
I Know what you may be asking, what is a plant based diet? and should I make the switch and stop eating meat?
A plant based diet consists of eating mainly fruit, vegetables, pulses,beans,nuts,seeds and whole grains. Cutting out meat and eating these can have a significant and positive impact on health.
Plant foods are packed with soluble and insoluble fiber which supports a healthy digestive system and will maintain regularity. (Meat contains no dietary fiber at all). They also contain prebiotics which are non digestible fibers that help the good bacteria in the gut. Prebiotics are fermented by bacteria in the colon and this process contributes to a healthy environment throughout the digestive tract. Studies have recently shown that having a healthy gut is not only great for your digestive health but has also shown to help immunity and also mental health.

Consumption of red and processed meat is the number 1 cause of heart disease due to the cholesterol content. Cholesterol is only found in meats. Research has suggested that a diet packed with plant foods can lower blood pressure and decrease the risk of heart disease.
